Lucas Gambit Records is excited to announce that we’ve signed indie-rock band Hadwynn and alternative pop-rockers Aftermath to exclusive agreements to release their next albums. Both titles will be available nationwide January 10, 2012.
On the heels of their extremely successful debut EP, Aftermath is set to release a new batch of tunes entitled “She’s Better Than Dreams”. Principal songwriter Jonathan Edwards shares his thoughts on the EP here. “I think sometimes we can all be victims of the belief that our present realities aren’t as good as what we find in movies or what we find in books and stories. For a lot of us, the people we write about and sing about are the people we wish existed, people we hoped we’d meet, people we dream to dream about. We write sometimes to get away, to escape from something or someone to hopefully find something or someone else better. We believe because of certain life circumstances that real people, real life, will never be that great. But deep down I think it’s so much more than that. In the end we don’t want the person from the dream. In the end we don’t want the person we go to sleep to find but in fact, we want the person that we eagerly wake up to see. We want someone that we stay awake as long as we can to keep thinking about because in the end we know we found someone so much greater than anything or anyone we’d end up finding during the night. It’s then in that moment we realize and understand we haven’t found someone that we’ve always dreamed about. Not at all. We’ve found someone so far beyond any possible dream we’ve ever had. They aren’t the person from our dreams, they’re undoubtedly the person that’s better than all our dreams.”
To be such young bucks, the boys in Hadwynn have been at it for quite a while. The band itself began just between the edges of 2006 and ’07 when teenage guitarist Daniel Moore met up with and began writing songs with drummer Jon Marks, bassist Zach McCool, and frontman Stephen Miglarese. The four played shows in the Raleigh rock and roll scene, finding the band’s identity in emotional, deeply personal lyrics, the whiplash of roaringly loud to whisper quiet, and a live show rounded out by a kind of energy usually reserved for street fights or the final down of a tied football game. Fast forward to 2011. Marriages, lineup changes, and long nights in the rock clubs of the Southeast find Hadwynn’s Daniel Moore, Jon Marks, and guitarist Jarrett Gercken producing a more mature, accessible incarnation of the emotional and musical touchstones that made the band a local favorite. With the upcoming release of their debut LP “Monuments”, Hadwynn is poised for a breakout year in 2012.
We here at Lucas Gambit are looking forward to a bright future for both these young bands and cant wait to get the music in your hands. Please join us in welcoming both bands into the LG family by visiting their Facebook pages and ‘like’ them.
